Backing Tracks may be used at the Vocal Section only (not Choral Section). Each competitor must provide someone other than themselves to operate the backing track. Backing tracks must not have guide vocals.

Adjudicator - Peta Blyth OAM

Peta Blyth studied at the University of Queensland graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Music, with piano as a performance major and voice as secondary study. She was awarded the Sir Henry Abel Smith Scholarship and studied postgraduate singing at the Royal College of Music, London, where she also completed the two year Royal College of Music Opera Course.
Returning to Australia, she performed with the Australian Opera, making her principal role debut in Brian Howard’s Metamorphosis directed by Graeme Murphy. Subsequent roles with the Australian Opera included Papagena in The Magic Flute, Sophie in Werther, Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro, Chava in The Fiddler on the Roof, First Niece in Peter Grimes and Jano in Jenufa.

Among her numerous understudies was the title role of Marie in The Daughter of the Regiment performed by Dame Joan Sutherland. Peta has also performed with the Lyric Opera of Queensland, in Hong Kong and in New Zealand as Musetta in La Boheme. As a concert artist, she has appeared as a soloist with the Queensland Orchestra and Queensland Philharmonic Orchestras and the Seymour Group in the title role of Sculthorpe’s Eliza Fraser.

Peta combines a career of performance, teaching and is demand as an adjudicator. For twelve year she has organised and performed in the annual event, Opera in the Paddock. As Artistic Director of Opera North West Ltd , she is committed to the performance of fine music in regional areas, organising and performing numerous concerts across regional New South Wales.

With pianist David Miller, Peta released the CD Blyth Spirit. In 2010, she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for contribution to the performing arts, particularly opera. Qualifications: B Mus ( Hons), BA, Dip Ed, L Mus A (piano) ARCM Voice ( London)
